Consumers are suing debt collectors for violations of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and getting protection (and remedies) from harassing and abusive behavior by debt collectors. The Fair Credit Reporting Act ensures that information is reported accurately to credit agencies, and violations raise cause of action against the debt collector AND the credit reporting agency.
